S&P Global Includes SMU in Its 2025 Sustainability Yearbook, Recognizing Its Performance Within the Industry

SMU, the parent company of Unimarc, Alvi, Mayorista 10, and Super10, has been included for the first time in the 2025 Sustainability Yearbook published by S&P Global. This yearbook acknowledges companies that achieved outstanding scores in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). In the food and staples retailing industry, 128 companies were evaluated globally, and SMU was one of just 10 companies—and the only one from Chile—to earn this recognition. Across all industries, only 780 of the 7,690 evaluated companies qualified for the Sustainability Yearbook.
SMU scored 68/100 in the latest CSA, which annually assesses companies' sustainable practices, segmenting them by industry and comparing social, economic, and environmental criteria. In the food and staples retailing industry, SMU ranked first in Chile, second in Latin America, and eighth globally, placing it within the top 3% worldwide.
“We are pleased with this achievement, which reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone at SMU. Being the only Chilean company in our industry to be included in the 2025 yearbook is a testament to our dedication to improving sustainable management year after year, through the implementation of our corporate sustainability model at SMU and its subsidiaries,” stated Paula Coronel, Chief People and Sustainability Officer at SMU.
This milestone follows another significant achievement for the retailer at the end of last year: its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Chile and MILA. These globally recognized indices are also based on the CSA conducted by S&P Global.
