Unimarc's 100% Nuestro Program: Promoting Regional Suppliers
SMU and its subsidiaries prioritize initiatives focused on environmental care and creating shared value, as outlined in their strategic plan. This commitment is evident in the promotion and development of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) suppliers, which enables Unimarc to offer a wide array of regional products to its customers through the 100% Nuestro program.
The initiative began in 2012 in the Aysén Region as a response to the challenge of providing fresh and high-quality products to local customers, considering the logistical difficulties in the southernmost areas of the country. Today, Unimarc’s 100% Nuestro program features over a thousand local products, giving regional SMEs preferential shelf space and showcasing traditional and typical flavors of the country.
Currently, around 200 suppliers sell their products in Unimarc’s 292 stores across Chile, with more than 400 SMEs having participated in the program since its inception. “The increased availability of local products enriches our assortment for customers, boosting final sales and directly benefiting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises throughout Chile,” explains Marcela Salas, SMU’s Sustainability Manager.
Support for these suppliers extends beyond product commercialization, involving close collaboration with them. The program adheres to the Mi Compromiso PYME Seal by E&Y and Unión Emprendedora and conducted 27 mentorship programs in partnership with the Simón de Cirene Foundation in 2023. Additionally, since 2012, a partnership with INDAP has aimed to enhance the economic and social development of small farmers. Currently, 28 farmers are part of the program due to this agreement, which includes workshops and seminars among other activities.
“This initiative focuses on generating shared value for entrepreneurs, and it is a privilege to accompany them on this journey,” Marcela Salas emphasizes. “We have witnessed their growth and development as they gain the momentum they need. Our challenge is to raise awareness about this program and reach more people. We want to help them achieve their dreams and enable our customers to enjoy their products across Chile".
